Sound

for our two minute film opening we will be using non-diagetic sound through out, we have chosen to use a classical song by ludovico einaudi - un un'altra vita. this will contradict our story line as we have chosen to do a modern take gangs and drugs. also the song builds up as it goes on this could lead the audience to build suspense.

Shots

We got our inspiration for our actual clip from the music video Robbery by Abra Cadabra, we thought that some of the shots really emphasised and focused on what the people were doing.

This shot is relevant to our opening as the driver is double crossing his victim, and this shot makes the man on the left look quite vulnerable as he is in the foreground of the shot, this makes him seem as though he is not relevant and is just there, and the man focused on in the front  looks care free and calm as if he is chilled out about what will happen next.

This shot is relevant to our opening as in the beginning of it, it shows a close up of a phone, we got this idea from this video, this makes the character look laid back as if everything is okay, just checking his phone he's relaxed when really by stepping into the car he doesn't know what he is getting himself into.

This shot represents the boy in the beginning walking out of a " rough " area on his own, a car park at night is seen to be quite scary as there are lots of blind spots, and are now linked with large groups of people, so this could lead an audience to believe something could happen when in fact when he is walking nothing happens. so this misleads them

This shot just gives an example of one of our shots we will use in the car when both of our characters are in the car.

Location

LOCATION: Tanners Road, N18,

For out location we have chosen to use an estate this is because we felt that it fitted the story line well. Estates are stereotyped as rough and a bad area, the events that are shown in our opening are the sort of things that people associate with an estate, gang violence and muggings, although there is not a specific mugging in our opening our ending will leave the audience hopefully wondering if this was the next scene.

Jaws

Blood On The Beach

The sound in this clip is based on the sound motif of the jaws theme tune coming on when the shark  gets closer to its victim, this is a good technique because it then sticks in the audiences head that if the shark is near or there is an accident about to happen then the sound comes on then the should brace them self's.

The whole slip seemed quite calm and playful as you can hear the children laughing through out the clip this scene is quite calm and relaxed, this does not prepare you for the fatal accident that happens. However the chief seemed very anxious, and the begging  of the clip is very focused on what he can see and hear, he can hear kids screaming and having fun how ever there are lots of distractions as people keep talking to him so this gives the audience a little worry, but not too much, until we hear the loud scream, this leads the audience to believe something has happened as we are watching from the chiefs perspective however the rest of the people on the beach are still calm.

wire in the blood

In the short clip we watched from wire in the blood, the camera is very wobbly, this demonstrates panic in the female, this follows the stereotype that women are the main sex that worry and stress while men are chilled and relaxed.

as it goes on the footing changes, we see this after the man walks away and its a over the shoulder shot of the man walking away this shows us that he is now the dominant character as he is in control of the situation and she is begging him to stay, the over the shoulder shot, explains that the man is more important as you can see his whole body where as the woman you can just see the back of her head.

the next scene is a male looking at some evidence and putting the pieces together the shots are short and quick, this could show that his mind is racing, his thoughts are quick and the short parts of what you say just shows that he has a lot to filter through., and make sense of.

the next scene follows the stereo type that t woman rely'son the man as she is a single mother who needs a baby sitter so that she can go to work however this causes the next scene to break the stereo type ads the male character who is normal put across to be hard working and they dont look after children how ever this scene shows a different side to the man, the shot is a mid two shot of the little boy and the man talking, this shot shows that the scene is quite calm and the two characters are equal not that the man is trying to give his self any suppository

cutting it

The clip shown above is a scene from 'cutting it'female dominance in the beginning, we see this because she was the character who planned the journey and the one who payed for the cab, this shows that she was in control of the situation.
The mid two shot in the first scene shows equality within both genders as they have an equal screen time, however as the conversation goes on, it changes to shot reverse shot in P.O.V this could represent the change in footing as, there is a touchy subject and the equality breaks the connection between the two is lost.

The extreme close up shot on her holding his hand could imply that she is dependent on him in the relationship, the fact that it is an extreme close up could be trying to emphasis the fact that she needs him. this follows the stereotype that women rely on men.
how ever the next extreme close up is of the man playing with his ring, this could imply that he is thinking about the relationship or he misses her as shes at the hospital, this could be breaking the stereotype and she

Shot reverse shot in this scene shows how the ending of the equality between the two, could show the separation in the conversation, no longer is it a conversation together they're talking at each other.

Title Sequences

The following title sequences were chosen because our idea initial idea for out 2 min film opening is based on either gangsters or gang violence and all of these are either related to this or are an idea that could be linked to what we will use.

Smokin’ Aces: I chose this title sequence because I liked the fact that I didn't have any real footage of people in it, all the different scenes were just images made to look like scenes from the film, the colours used were not realistic, I liked that feature because it made It feel like a comic strip.

Boardwalk Empire:  This title sequences was another choice of mine because I liked the fact that the gangster used was not a modern stereotyped gang member, he was suited up and was not in a location you would expect him to be in.

West Side Story: I chose this title sequence as I like the fact that it is based on the credits rather than introducing the film, I also like that the credits are imbedded into the graffiti on the walls, I feel this is a good way of putting them forward as it is not too 'in your face' but it is there.

Romeo Juliet:  this title sequence was brilliant, I thought it was a fantastic idea, using the opening words from the play in the modern news setting, talking about war, relating to modern times how there is war still going on. I really liked this.

first mini clip analysis

Hustle
In the short scene from the film Hustle we watched, the beginning showed a clear sign of class ratings, in that the wealthier woman got showed more attention and was more respected. The lighting made the place look more expensive, for example everything looked more clean pure and very “don’t touch this its expensive”, but then again the could have been due to the acting and the accent of the man working in the shop, he had a very upper class character. The room the scene was in was reasonably open, this does not show a cramped mood, however the less wealthy lady; the camera shot was always a close up this could have been trying to show that her whole body shouldn’t be seen down whereas the woman with money had lost of wide shots where her whole outfit was on show, this shows dominance in the woman with money.

The man who worked in the shop started off the dominant character when he was talking to the poorer lady, this was probably because he felt he had superiority over her as he had more money than her and he could afford the clothing in the shop, however as soon as her was talking to the other lady his footing almost immediately changed in that he was more smiley and approachable. The eye to eye shots could have been an attempt to show some sort of equality in class between the two characters however the way the two were composing themselves proved who was the more sophisticated and mature between the two.

The next scene had a very different atmosphere, the two were very panicked as the woman had ‘lost her ring’ this is where there was lots of point of view shots and the camera was very shaky this did show fear and both the characters are made to look quite vulnerable, however as the audience we understand that it is a hustle and in fact the vulnerable character is the man, this goes against the stereotype of a typical man as he was the one in the dark and unaware of the situation where as society normally put females in that position.

The last scene is quite different as the woman has now left and a man walks in, with a very confident persona, this character had a cockney accent one that society would place in a lower class, however in the clip he came across as wealthy as he was suited up and had his hair done. He found the ring and teased the shop keeper about giving it to hi, this made the shop keeper beg for it back and again made him look weak and vulnerable, and considering he is supposed to be the dominant character as he owned the shop he in fact shows a lot of submissive qualities in that he needs to impress and kiss up to his customers.
